The Best Builds for Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines to Try ASAP

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines allows for many different builds when creating your character. Generally speaking, the game is rather forgiving and, with enough skills, you can play whatever you want. There are, however, a few builds that match some clans so much and that are so immersive and fun to play that it’d be a shame not to share them.

The builds that you are going to see aren’t necessarily the strongest possible but are great either for roleplay, immersion, or just pure fun.

Let’s see then how to find the right build for your favorite VTMB clans.

VTMB Best Builds

Tremere – The Gunslinger Magician

Gangrel – The indomitable beast

Nosferatu – The phantom killer

Toreador – The beautiful death

Tremere – The Gunslinger Magician

Tremere are the strongest clan when it comes to disciplines. Combining Thaumaturgy with the use of ranged weapons will create an extremely powerful character that will easily dispose of all sorts of enemies.

Feats

In Combat, the focus is on Ranged and Defense. So it’s important to spend points improving Perception and Wits. Increasing these Attributes will also give a bonus to Hacking and Inspection which will be your main Covert feats.

With a female character, it’s recommended to select the “Bar Singer Seductress” background to swap the priority of your abilities to “Talents, Skills, Knowledge”. This way, aside from spending points in Firearms and Dodge, you’ll also be able to spend a point on Intimidation for extra dialogue options.

If you choose to play as a man, then select the “Con Artist” background that prioritizes “Skills, Talents, Knowledge”. This will grant you an extra point in Ranged, useful if you plan to just shoot your way past problems.

Thaumaturgy is your main discipline and you should try to max it as soon as possible but do spend points in Dominate too as it also gives some useful powers.

Takeout

This build focuses on fighting using ranged weapons and blood magic. Killing enemies will be extremely satisfying and you’ll feel very powerful from the early stages of the story.

The downside is that you won’t have any decent social skills and won’t have many dialogue options or better prices in stores.

Gangrel – The indomitable beast

If you’re looking for a bashing character equally strong in Melee and Unarmed, then a Gangrel is what you need. With this build, you’ll create a war machine with very high attacks and defense but completely withdrawn from society (as a Gangrel should be).

Feats

Combat is the main focus of this build and all you need are Unarmed, Melee, and Defense. You’ll need to spend points on Strength, Stamina, and Wits as much as you can. From Wits, you’ll also get a bonus in Hacking which will be your only extra Ability in the game.

When choosing the background, select “Anda Gangrel” which gives extra points in Stamina and Fortitude at the expense of Animalism (that you don’t really need anyway). Protean should be your main focus when it comes to Disciplines followed by Fortitude.

Takeout

With this build, you basically transform the game into a “beat ’em up” which could be fun though won’t leave much space for different approaches. You’ll struggle in quests where sneaking is preferable but you’ll be able to annihilate all enemies anyway.

Nosferatu – The phantom killer

Nosferatu are resourceful vampires and this is reflected in this build. You won’t have the most powerful attacks but what you get is an all-rounder that can excel in many situations and give you many different approaches to all quests.

Feats

Your strong point is sneaking so, aside from getting past enemies unnoticed, it’s important to be good with melee combat. Using the base points in Mental, putting everything to Wits will help with defense and Hacking. In Physical, instead, you should balance your points between Dexterity and Strength but always give priority to the former.

The Covert skills set is where this build shines the most. You won’t find a door that can’t unlock or a computer that can’t hack, all while hiding in the shadows. Given the two starting points in Knowledge, you can choose to either go all-in on Computer or balance it with either Finance or Scholarship.

Choosing the background Leatherface will give you an extra point in melee and an extra in Potence. This will help you to be more powerful in combat. The drawback is that you have to be more careful with Humanity and Frenzy checks.

Takeout

This build should give you plenty of opportunities for different gameplay within the same story. Aside from sneaking, hacking and lockpicking around L.A., Nosferatu have the second most hilarious dialogues in the game, after Malkavians, which makes this build among the funniest and more enjoyable of all.

Toreador – The beautiful death

This build is pure roleplay, especially at the beginning of the game when you might struggle a little with some enemies. Midway through the game, however, you’ll also start to be powerful enough to destroy most enemies with ease.

Feats

You start with minimum Ranged and Defense skills that are still enough to get by the first few quests. Your strong point is seduction and you’ll have plenty of occasions to use it to your advantage and, sometimes, even to complete quests without firing a shot.

At first, you’re going to suffer with the Covert feats but, later in the game, you can focus on either lockpicking or hacking. Since the roleplay demands it, you’re going to be a beautiful seductress (or seductor) able to bend people’s will to your cause and get better prices in the process.

To complete the build, you should choose the background “Decadent Enchantress” which gives an extra point in Appearance and in Subterfuge. You’ll lose some effectiveness on Celerity but, since focusing on that Discipline would be too easy, it doesn’t matter. As you’ll be focusing on ranged weapons, Auspex and Presence should be your main Disciplines since they give bonuses to Ranged and Defense, and maluses to enemies.

Takeout

You’re going to have a lot of fun manipulating people and turning enemies into allies, role-playing the “femme fatale” or the “lady-killer”. When your silver tongue will be of no use, you’ll still be good enough with a gun to eliminate your foes.

VTMB Builds: Final Words

There are only three clans not included in this list: Malkavian, Brujah, and Ventrue. The reason behind this is that these clans can fit into some of the builds we’ve seen before:

  • Brujah can have the same build as Gangrel, with a stronger focus on Melee
  • Ventrue can copy the Toreador build, relying more on Charisma or Manipulation
  • Malkavians are fun anyways and with any build. If you have to choose, you can either follow the Tremere or the Nosferatu build, depending on your preferred play style.

Finally, these builds were tried with the Clan Quest Mod and the Unofficial Patch 11.3, but they should work well with other mods as well. If you’re into mods, don’t miss our lists of the best mods for VTMB in 2022 and of 7 lesser-known VTMB mods!
